right to die

This weekend we watched Mar adentro (The Sea Inside) with the fabulous Javier Bardem. It's about a quadriplegic man's quest to end his life legally in Spain. He is denied that right, but eventually finds someone to help him die.

I read today that France has denied its citizens the right to die. I don't know the specifics of this woman's case, but to me it comes down to each person's choice. It is their body, it is their life. To me, to end one's own life is a each person's right.

{dignity} by Liz Leighton

If you have ever watched someone (especially someone you love) die a slow, painful death.... Why should people be forced to suffer?

euthanasia: the act or practice of killing or permitting the death of hopelessly sick or injured individuals (as persons or domestic animals) in a relatively painless way for reasons of mercy
~from Merriam-Webster Dictionary

Check out the Bill Moyers PBS series, On Our Own Terms. Really well done on this topic.
